Our virtue of the month is Citizenship:

Letter from The Headmaster:

Dear Spartan Families,

Last week we were excited and proud to host so many of you on campus to observe and sit in your scholar's classrooms. An open house is a unique opportunity for parents to get a meaningful glimpse into the classroom and experience what occurs daily at school. This is something that we will continue to do around February of each school year.

We are so appreciative to all who could take advantage of this opportunity. Not only is this a unique experience for you as a parent, but your presence on campus supporting your scholar and their education is so important. We hope that this was an enjoyable time for all and hope to see those of you that missed it this year in the future.

As we near the end of February, anticipation for Spring Break is growing for faculty and students, and I think for mom and dad as well 😊. I know I love getting a small break from making lunches and the business of the school week to spend quality time with my family.

Looking ahead, we have many exciting events on campus to look forward to. This spring, students will focus on the virtue of friendship on Great Hearts Day; we will gather together at our Spartan Fiesta and Car Show, will welcome new families at new family orientation, and celebrate our kindergartners and fifth graders at their promotion ceremonies, and students will participate in the last of their curricular celebrations for the year.

Please review their pre-assessment on Wednesday to assess where your scholar needs extra support. Scholars will learn and review 10 words a week and be assessed on them on Friday. The words for this week are: are, had, over, must, make, street, say, come, hand, ring. Scholars will continue to bring home their book bag.  It is important that they read it daily to an adult. Scholars are being graded on homework with a focus on correct completion, penmanship, and overall neatness.

Math:  As we wrap up Quarter 3 we will continue to learn about addition to the sum of 5.  We will explore turning word problems into math equations, and studying all the different ways we can build effective word problems.  At the end of the week, we will engage in craft to help us review all we have learned throughout the week.

Science/History: In Science this week, our scholars will be introduced to our Objects in the Sky Unit in preparation for our Objects in the Sky celebration next month! This week we will learn the difference between daytime and nighttime and will learn facts about the sun and the moon.  Our scholars will continue our president’s unit in history with an Abraham Lincoln craft on Tuesday and the importance of Theodore Roosevelt on Thursday.

Literature:

Before we jump into our exciting Character Classic books, we wanted to take some time to enjoy a few more lovely pieces of Literature.  Make way for Ducklings by Robert McCloskey is a wonderful story about a mother and father duck finding the perfect home to raise their new ducklings.  Throughout this story, the scholars will work on retelling the story in sequential order and comparing 2 similar places in the book by completing a T-Char
