Our virtue of the month is Honesty:

HONESTY: We never knowingly induce another to believe what is false. We are always truthful in what we say and do, regardless of the circumstances or consequences. ALWAYS SPEAK THE TRUTH.

Practice: PLEASE HELP YOUR SCHOLARS KEEP THEIR ROUTINE OF READING EVERYNIGHT AND BEING PREPARED FOR LEARNING.  Please have your scholars practice writing their name, number, and date to help with labeling their assignments. Please have your scholars practice reciting their poems in front of you to help build confidence in standing in front of their peers and delivering their best. WE ARE SENDING BOOK BAGS HOME EVERY WEEK SO THAT YOUR SCHOLAR MAY CONTINUE TO PRACTICE READING AND BUILD THEIR COMPREHENSION SKILLS. THEY NEED TO BE RETURNED EVERYDAY!

Quarterly Poem: "Mary Had a little Lamb" Traditional Nursery Rhyme

Mary had a little lamb, whose fleece was white as snow. And everywhere that Mary went, the lamb was sure to go.

He followed her to school one day, which was against the rules. It made the children laugh and play, to see a lamb at school.

And so the teacher turned it out, but still it lingered near, he waited patiently about, till Mary did appear.

"why does the lamb love Mary so?" The eager children cried. " Why, Mary loves the lamb, you know," The teacher did reply.

Weekly Poem: " Singing - Time" by Rose Fyleman

The week ahead:

SPALDING: Scholars will review the phonograms learned in the weeks prior:  a-z, sh, ee, th, ow, ou, oo, ch, ay, oy, ai, oi, er ,ir, ur, wor.  Scholars will practice writing their phonograms and review top line, mid-point, and baseline using Spalding paper. This week will continue our written phonograms, where scholars will write down the phonogram they hear. Scholars will be assessed in written form on “er”,  “ear” and 8 other phonograms on Friday.  Please review their pre-assessment on Wednesday to assess where your scholar needs extra support. Scholars will continue to bring home their book bag.  It is important that they read it daily with an adult. Beginning this week, scholars will be graded on their homework.  They will be graded on correct completion, penmanship, and overall neatness. On Wednesday, scholars will be introduced to their spelling notebook. In grammar, scholars will learn about different types of sentences, beginning with the exclamatory sentences.

Math: Now that we have mastered our study of writing, reading and counting numbers to 10, we will now start comparing these numbers. This week, scholars will learn the definitions of the phrases “more than” and “fewer than”, and how to use them in full sentences.  The scholars will do a few hands-on learning activities to help them fully understand the new concepts, as well as a lot of textbook practice.

Science/History:  In History this week, scholars will continue our Pilgrim unit by diving into their journey to the new world on the Mayflower and how life was like on the ship for adults and children. Scholars will also learn the significance of the Mayflower Compact and the colony founded on Plymouth Rock! The week will end with a unit review and assessment.

Literature: Fairy tales are full of magical events, intriguing characters, and twisted plots. That surely defines the story that we are reading this week, which is Snow White and the Seven Dwarves. This is a story of friendship, trust, and the danger of vanity. We will study the characters closely and take a deeper look into the plot as the story progresses.
