Our scholars are Spartan proud and Field Day was a HUGE success! Congrats to every team who gave it their all.

Our virtue of the month is Honesty:

HONESTY: We never knowingly induce another to believe what is false. We are always truthful in what we say and do, regardless of the circumstances or consequences. ALWAYS SPEAK THE TRUTH.

Practice: PLEASE HELP YOUR SCHOLARS KEEP THEIR ROUTINE OF READING EVERYNIGHT AND BEING PREPARED FOR LEARNING.  Please have your scholars practice writing their name, number, and date to help with labeling their assignments. Please have your scholars practice reciting their poems in front of you to help build confidence in standing in front of their peers and delivering their best. WE WILL BEGIN SENDING BOOK BAGS HOME THIS WEEK SO THAT YOUR SCHOLAR MAY PRACTICE READING AND BUILD THEIR COMPREHENSION SKILLS. THEY NEED TO BE RETURNED EVERYDAY!

Quarterly Poem: "Mary Had a little Lamb" Traditional Nursery Rhyme

Mary had a little lamb, whose fleece was white as snow. And everywhere that Mary went, the lamb was sure to go.

He followed her to school one day, which was against the rules. It made the children laugh and play, to see a lamb at school.

And so the teacher turned it out, but still it lingered near, he waited patiently about, till Mary did appear.

"why does the lamb love Mary so?" The eager children cried. " Why, Mary loves the lamb, you know," The teacher did reply.

Weekly Poem: " Georgie Porgie" Traditional nursery Rhyme

The week ahead:

SPALDING:    Scholars will review the phonograms learned in the weeks prior:  a-z, sh, ee, th, ow, ou, oo, ch, ay, oy, ai, oi.  Scholars will practice writing their phonograms and review top line, mid-point, and baseline using Spalding paper. This week will continue our written phonograms, where scholars will write down the phonogram they hear. Scholars will be assessed in written form on er, ir, and 8 other phonograms on Friday.  Please review their pre-assessment on Wednesday to assess where your scholar needs extra support. This week, we will also be sending home the book bags. There will be instructions with a book that scholars should read daily.  They will read the book to their teacher the following day. Scholars who find the book challenging will keep the same book.  In grammar, scholars will learn about different types of sentences, continuing with the declarative sentences.  In guided reading, scholars continue to meet the teacher in groups.  Scholars who are not with the teacher focus on skills like beginning middle and end sound, rhyming, and letter matching.

Math: We have had such a wonderful time studying flat shapes and solid shapes. As we wrap up this chapter we will touch a little bit on patterns and also multiple directions such as above, behind, below, besides, between in front of, and next to.  In our next chapter of learning Mathematics, we will start learning about comparing number to 10.

Science/History: In Science this week, we will continue our animal unit and introduce animal classifications such as amphibians, reptiles, insects, fish and birds! We will focus primarily on Texas animals including: the Texas Horned Lizard, the Texas Monarch, and the Texas Roadrunner. Students will also learn about the life cycle of a frog and a butterfly. In History, scholars will be introduced to our Pilgrim unit and will learn who they were and why they left Europe.

Literature: These fairy tales truly tell creative stories while providing useful, teachable morals.  Little Red Riding Hood shows us the importance of obedience and how actions have consequences.  As well as learn a valuable lesson, the scholars will also learn how to identify the hero and villain in a story.
