September 5th - 9th

 Dear Kindergarten Families,

Our scholars are settling into their routines and enjoying making new friendships. The virtue of the month is Responsibility.

RESPONSIBILITY: We accept obligation related to our own good and the good of others, and we act on those obligations in a manner suitable to their timely and satisfactory fulfillment. We are willingly accountable for what we do and say, and we seek to learn from our mistakes. OWN YOUR ACTIONS!

Practice: Please have your scholars practice tucking in their shirts and locating their snack and their lunch box. Please have your scholars practice writing their name, number, and date to help with labeling their assignments. Please have your scholars practice reciting their poems in front of you to help build confidence in standing in front of their peers and delivering their best.

Poem: "One, Two, Buckle My Shoe" Traditional Nursery Rhyme

The week ahead:

SPALDING: Scholars will continue learning additional phonograms (u,j,k) while reviewing the phonograms learned in the week prior (o,c,a,d,f,g,s,qu,b,e,h,i). Scholars will practice writing their phonograms and review top line, mid point, and baseline using Spalding paper. Please have scholars use the correct pencil grip at home.

Math: This week in math, we will continue to study number 0-5. As we focus more on writing the numbers and learning their formations, we will also pivot our attention on counting the numbers in order. An easy and efficient way to learn how to count objects is by grouping them. We will learn how to group objects that are similar or the same.

Science/History: This week scholars will wrap up their maps and globes unit by learning that 50 states make up the United States of America. Scholars will have a review and final assessment on Maps and Globes on Wednesday. Scholars will begin a new unit in Science on our Five Senses and will learn specifically about the sense of touch on Friday.

Literature: During our studies in literature, our focus has been fairy tales, and make believe stories. The new fairy tale that we are reading this week is "Three Billy Goats Gruff". We will take a deeper look into the virtues seen in this fairy tale, discuss the importance of problems and solutions.
