 Upcoming Events:

02/3 - 100th day of school Celebration

Our virtue of the month is Perseverance:

We spurn despair and strive to complete tasks to the best of our abilities, regardless of the difficulty. We respond creatively to overcome obstacles and ask for help when necessary. NEVER GIVE UP!

Letter from The Headmaster:

Dear families,

The second semester is off to a great start! It was wonderful seeing how proud students were as they came in with their completed independent study projects. Students presented with pride, and I have heard from many students and families that they enjoyed learning more about their topics. Thank you for continuing to partner with us and supporting your scholars at home with their schoolwork.

A main focus for the second semester is to continue to help all of our students grow both academically and morally. We will continue to shepherd students in and out of the classroom as they fine-tune their habits of the body and mind.

Please use the second quarter report card and narrative notes prepared by your scholar's teacher to reflect on the first half of the school year and set goals for the second semester.

The week ahead:

SPALDING: Scholars will review the phonograms learned in the weeks prior:  a-z, sh, ee, th, ow, ou, oo, ch, ar, ay, oy, ai, oi, er ,ir, ur, wor, ear, ng, ea, ar, aw, au, or, ck, wh, ed, ew, ui, oa, gu, ph, ough, oe, ey, igh, kn, gn, wr, ie .  This week we will learn 4 new phonograms: dge, ei, eigh, ti. Scholars will be assessed in written form of 10 phonograms on Friday.  Please review their pre-assessment on Wednesday to assess where your scholar needs extra support. Scholars will learn and review 5 words a week and be assessed on them on Friday. The words for this week are: he, you, will, we, an. Scholars will continue to bring home their book bag.  It is important that they read it daily with an adult. Scholars are being graded on homework with a  focus on correct completion, penmanship, and overall neatness.

Math: This week we will wrap up our chapter on making and breaking numbers and move onto learning and counting number 10-20.  In this new chapter as we focus on new numbers, not only will we continue to work on formations, but also how to identify the 10’s and 1’s in the “teen” numbers.

Science/History: In History, scholars will continue our continent unit by earning more about South America, Europe, and Australia. They will learn about each continent's main crop, historical monument, and animal. In Science, scholars will continue the plant unit and will focus on Photosynthesis and the difference between deciduous and evergreen trees.

Literature: The joy of not only reading, but enjoying literature allows us to be able to learn so many valuable things from the many stories that we read.  For example, this week’s Chinese Folktale, called The Empty Pot, teaches us the significance of integrity, and the beauty of honesty even when it’s hard.  We will continue to learn how to connect virtues and apply them to our lives.
