02/23 Wild Weather Celebration

Our virtue of the month is Friendship:

Letter from The Headmaster:

Dear families,

The second semester is off to a great start! It was wonderful seeing how proud students were as they came in with their completed independent study projects. Students presented with pride, and I have heard from many students and families that they enjoyed learning more about their topics. Thank you for continuing to partner with us and supporting your scholars at home with their schoolwork.

A main focus for the second semester is to continue to help all of our students grow both academically and morally. We will continue to shepherd students in and out of the classroom as they fine-tune their habits of the body and mind.

Please use the second quarter report card and narrative notes prepared by your scholar's teacher to reflect on the first half of the school year and set goals for the second semester.

We are now finished learning all 70 phonograms for Kindergarten level, and review continues. Scholars will be assessed in written form of 10 phonograms on Friday. Please review their pre-assessment on Wednesday to assess where your scholar needs extra support. Scholars will learn and review 10 words a week and be assessed on them on Friday. The words for this week are: be, but, this, all, your, you, out, time, may, into. Scholars will continue to bring home their book bag.  It is important that they read it daily to an adult. Scholars are being graded on homework with a  focus on correct completion, penmanship, and overall neatness.

Math:  This week, we will transition from learning about length, to height and weight.  We will compare the height of different objects in the classroom to help the scholar recognize how to properly measure items.  Later in the week, we will study how to weigh different objects by hand to help us know which ones are heavier and which ones are lighter.

Science/History: Scholars will also continue our president’s unit in history with a lesson on the importance of the United States first president, George Washington. We will end the week with a George Washington craft! In Science, we will continue our weather unit by learning about the different types of clouds and different types of precipitation.

Literature: Another tall tale that we have the opportunity to explore this week, is the tale of “Casey Jones”. He was a locomotive engineer who sacrificed his life for the survival of others.  We will continue to learn how to compare and contrast 2 similar stories by using a venn diagram.
