Our virtue of the month is Citizenship:

Letter from The Headmaster:

Dear Spartan Families,

Last week we were excited and proud to host so many of you on campus to observe and sit in your scholar's classrooms. An open house is a unique opportunity for parents to get a meaningful glimpse into the classroom and experience what occurs daily at school. This is something that we will continue to do around February of each school year.

We are so appreciative to all who could take advantage of this opportunity. Not only is this a unique experience for you as a parent, but your presence on campus supporting your scholar and their education is so important. We hope that this was an enjoyable time for all and hope to see those of you that missed it this year in the future.

Looking ahead, we have many exciting events on campus to look forward to. This spring, students will focus on the virtue of friendship on Great Hearts Day; we will gather together at our Spartan Fiesta and Car Show, will welcome new families at new family orientation, and celebrate our kindergartners and fifth graders at their promotion ceremonies, and students will participate in the last of their curricular celebrations for the year.

Quarterly Poem:

" April Rain Song" By Langston Hughes

Let the rain kiss you.

Let the rain beat upon your head with silver liquid drops.

Let the rain sing you a lullaby.

The rain makes still pools on the sidewalk.

The rain makes running pools in the gutter.

The rain plays a little sleep-song on our roof at night-

And I love the rain.

The week ahead:

SPALDING: Scholars will review the phonograms learned in the weeks prior: a-z, sh, ee, th, ow, ou, oo, ch, ar, ay, oy, ai, oi, er ,ir, ur, wor, ear, ng, ea, ar, aw, au, or, ck, wh, ed, ew, ui, oa, gu, ph, ough, oe, ey, igh, kn, gn, wr, ie, dge, ei, eigh, ti, si, ci. We are now finished learning all 70 phonograms for Kindergarten level, and review continues. Scholars will be assessed in written form of 10 phonograms on Friday. Please review their pre-assessment on Wednesday to assess where your scholar needs extra support. Scholars will learn and review 10 words a week and be assessed on them on Friday. The words for this week are: mother, three, land, cold, hot, hat, child, ice, play, sea. Scholars will continue to bring home their book bag.  It is important that they read it daily to an adult. Scholars are being graded on homework with a focus on correct completion, penmanship, and overall neatness.

Math: This week will wrap up our time learning about addition and start to transition into subtraction. We will explore how to subtract by telling subtraction stories and writing number sentences. We will also use a hands-on approach by completing crafts and using manipulatives to help us better grasp subtraction.

Science/History: This week in Science, our scholars will wrap up our Objects in the Sky unit with a review and test on Monday and will have our final celebration on Thursday for this unit. Scholars will also begin our new unit on Magnetism and will learn what is considered magnetic, definitions of attract and repel, magnetic poles and the magnetic rule!

In History, scholars will continue our unit on Symbols and Figures and will specifically learn about the Statue of Liberty, its meaning and purpose.

Literature: What an exciting time! We finally get to dive into our Classics to Keep.  We will begin our new adventure of chapter books with the first book in the series, Little Bear. Not only will we have the pleasure of learning who Little Bear is, but also what makes him such an extraordinary character.  Our scholars will even have the opportunity to read some parts of the story aloud to the class.
