 Upcoming Events:

Our virtue of the month is Friendship:

Letter from The Headmaster:

Dear Spartan Families,

Last week we were excited and proud to host so many of you on campus to observe and sit in your scholar's classrooms. An open house is a unique opportunity for parents to get a meaningful glimpse into the classroom and experience what occurs daily at school. This is something that we will continue to do around February of each school year.

We are so appreciative to all who could take advantage of this opportunity. Not only is this a unique experience for you as a parent, but your presence on campus supporting your scholar and their education is so important. We hope that this was an enjoyable time for all and hope to see those of you that missed it this year in the future.

As we near the end of February, anticipation for Spring Break is growing for faculty and students, and I think for mom and dad as well 😊. I know I love getting a small break from making lunches and the business of the school week to spend quality time with my family.

Looking ahead, we have many exciting events on campus to look forward to. This spring, students will focus on the virtue of friendship on Great Herts Day; we will gather together at our Spartan Fiesta and Car Show, will welcome new families at new family orientation, and celebrate our kindergartners and fifth graders at their promotion ceremonies, and students will participate in the last of their curricular celebrations for the year.

Quarterly Poem:

" I Do Not Mind You, Winter Wind by Jack Prelutsky

" I do not mind you, Winter Wind

when you come whirling by,

to tickly me with snowflakes

drifting softly from the sky.

I do not even mind you

when you nibble at my skin,

scrambling over all of me

attempting to get in.

But when you bowl me over

and I land on my behind,

then I must tell you, Winter Wind,

I mind... I really mind!"

We are now finished learning all 70 phonograms for Kindergarten level, and review continues. Scholars will be assessed in written form of 10 phonograms on Friday. Please review their pre-assessment on Wednesday to assess where your scholar needs extra support. Scholars will learn and review 10 words a week and be assessed on them on Friday. The words for this week are: him, today, look, did, like, six, boy, book, by, have. Scholars will continue to bring home their book bag.  It is important that they read it daily to an adult. Scholars are being graded on homework with a focus on correct completion, penmanship, and overall neatness.

Math:  This week we will wrap up learning about number bonds, numbers 0-20, length, height and weight. Wow, so much covered in a few weeks.  As we end this chapter and test our knowledge through assessments, we will start a new chapter of learning about addition. Towards the end of this week, we will focus on adding smaller number through telling fun addition stories

Science/History: Our scholars will continue our president’s unit in history with a lesson on the importance of the Thomas Jefferson, the United States 3rd president. We will celebrate him with a craft on Wednesday. Scholars will also be introduced to the 16th president of the United States, Abraham Lincoln on Friday. We will wrap up our weather unit with a lesson on the attributes of thunderstorms on Tuesday and a weather assessment on Thursday.

Literature: What a wonderful time it has been reading all of these fantastic tall tales.  The last tall tale that we will focus on, teaches us about a man named Paul Bunyan.  He was a gigantic lumberjack who had a passion and talent for chopping down trees.  There are many fictitious tales told about Paul Bunyan and his life, and we will have the chance to learn about some of them and explore some of the facts as well.
