Our virtue of the month is Perseverance:

We spurn despair and strive to complete tasks to the best of our abilities, regardless of the difficulty. We respond creatively to overcome obstacles and ask for help when necessary. NEVER GIVE UP!

Practice:

·    Help them get back onto their regular bedtime schedule

·    Clean out lunchboxes and backpacks

·    Listen to your student as they practice their project presentations

·    Ensure all water bottles, sweaters and jackets are labeled

·    Have your student explain and teach you their critical classroom routines and procedures to help them prepare themselves for a strong semester 2 start

·    Talk with your student and help them set either an academic or behavioral goal for the second semester

Scholars will learn and review 5 words a week and be assessed on them on Friday. This week they will learn: so, no, now, man, ten. Scholars will continue to bring home their book bag.  It is important that they read it daily with an adult. Scholars are being graded on homework with a  focus on correct completion, penmanship, and overall neatness.

Math: It’s time to get back into the swing of things as we start a new quarter, and a new chapter in math.  This week in Math, we will start learning how to break number apart; will be teaching the scholars a simplified version of addition.  For example, we will go over how 2 and 2 make 4.  We will do this through learning how to break apart animal groups by separating them into big and small.

Science/History: On Monday, scholars will present their Independent Study project to peers and teachers! Scholars will continue the plant unit on Tuesday by planting their own bean seed to take care of at home. They will learn to identify parts of a plant, their importance and learn that fruits come from flowers but not all flowers turn into fruits. In History, scholars will continue our continent’s unit with our first lesson focusing on Earth’s largest continent, Asia, its main crop, historical monument, and animal. Scholars will end the week with a Taj Mahal craft

Literature:  We hope you are well rested and are ready to learn after a much-needed break, we are excited to dive right back into reading and understating classic literature.  As we focus on Aesop Fables this week, we will learn how to apply morals and virtues to our daily lives.  Each character in our stories displays a different virtue in all that they do, and we anticipate teaching your children how to recognize those morals and connect them through multiple fables.
