October 17th - October 21st

  Dear Kindergarten Families,

WELCOME BACK!!!

Our scholars are Spartan proud and carrying it well. The virtue of the month is Integrity.

INTEGRITY: We are individuals of strong ethical values, who make consistently good choices in keeping with our knowledge of right and wrong. We seek the wisdom of others in cases of moral uncertainty. WALK TALL IN TRUTH.

Practice: PLEASE HELP YOUR SCHOLARS KEEP THEIR ROUTINE OF READING EVERYNIGHT AND BEING PREPARED FOR LEARNING.  Please have your scholars practice writing their name, number, and date to help with labeling their assignments. Please have your scholars practice reciting their poems in front of you to help build confidence in standing in front of their peers and delivering their best. HOMEWORK PLEASE HAVE YOUR SCHOLARS COMPLETE THEIR HOMEWORK EVERYDAY!

( practice here)

Quarterly Poem: "Mary Had a little Lamb" Traditional Nursery Rhyme

Mary had a little lamb, whose fleece was white as snow. And everywhere that Mary went, the lamb was sure to go.

He followed her to school one day, which was against the rules. It made the children laugh and play, to see a lamb at school.

And so the teacher turned it out, but still it lingered near, he waited patiently about, till Mary did appear.

"why does the lamb love Mary so?" The eager children cried. " Why, Mary loves the lamb, you know," The teacher did reply.

Weekly Poem: " Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star " Jane Taylor

The week ahead:

SPALDING: Scholars will review the phonograms learned in the weeks prior: a-z, and will learn new multi-letter phonograms. Scholars will practice writing their phonograms and review top line, mid-point, and baseline using Spalding paper. This week will begin our written phonograms, where scholars will write down the phonogram they hear. Scholars will be assessed in written form on sh, ee, and 8 other single-letter phonograms on Friday. Please review their pre-assessment on Wednesday to assess where your scholar needs extra support. In grammar, scholars will continue to learn about verbs as they recall what a noun is. In Lyceum scholars have begun to meet the teacher in groups which has been a very exciting advancement. Scholars who are not with the teacher focus on skills like beginning, middle, and end sound with rhyming and letter matching.

Math: As we begin a new quarter, so begins a new concept in our mathematics journey. While we are transitioning from numbers to shapes, rest assured the number will not get left behind. We will have the amazing opportunity to explore different kinds of shapes such as flat shapes like circles and squares, and solid shapes, like spheres and cubes. As we compare and discover the various shapes and their attributes, we will compete many activities to help us deepen our knowledge of multiple shapes.

Science/History: Our scholars will have an exciting week in History and Science!. In science, scholars will conclude our matter unit with a Matter Sort review game on Tuesday and a Matter Unit assessment on Thursday. Our "scientist " this day will also participate with an end of unit dry ice experiment!

Literature: The story of the Jumping Mouse was truly inspiring and has surely helped us to see what kindness is. As we continue with our folktales, we will read a story with a little bit of sadness, but also a surprise. The story of The Bremen Town Musicians is one that will soften our hearts, and maybe stir up a little bit of laughter as well.
