September 26th - September 30th

 Dear Kindergarten Families,

Our scholars are Spartan proud and carrying it well. The virtue of the month is Responsibility.

RESPONSIBILITY: We accept obligation related to our own good and the good of others, and we act on those obligations in a manner suitable to their timely and satisfactory fulfillment. We are willingly accountable for what we do and say, and we seek to learn from our mistakes. OWN YOUR ACTIONS!

Practice: Please have your scholars practice tucking in their shirts and locating their snack and their lunch box. Please have your scholars practice writing their name, number, and date to help with labeling their assignments. Please have your scholars practice reciting their poems in front of you to help build confidence in standing in front of their peers and delivering their best. HOMEWORK PLEASE HAVE YOUR SCHOLARS COMPLETE THEIR HOMEWORK EVERYDAY!

The week ahead:

SPALDING: Scholars will continue learning additional phonograms: (r,t,v,w) while reviewing the phonograms learned in the weeks prior: (o,c,a,d,f,g,s,qu,b,e,h,i,u,j,k,l,m,n,p,r,t,v,w). Scholars will practice writing their phonograms and review top line, midpoint, and baseline using Spalding paper. This week also concludes our 26 single letter phonograms. In grammar, scholars are reviewing nouns: person, place, thing, and idea. They have learned a fun chant with gestures to help them remember! In lyceum, scholars have begun to meet the teacher in groups which has been a very exciting advancement. Scholars who are not with the teacher focus on skills like beginning, middle, and end sounds, rhyming, and letter matching.

Math: As the scholars learn to count higher and higher, it is an important skill to be able to keep track of how you are counting. This week in math we will focus on both learning numbers 8-10, and how to count items in order according to their groups arrangement. We will continue practicing identifying, counting, recognizing and writing number 0-10 this week . There are many fun activities that our scholars will engage in this week that will help them grow in their ability to count quickly and accurately.

Science/History: In History this week, your scholar will be introduced to our Native American unit. We will learn about the individual cultural regions in the US and the tribes that occupied them. In science scholars will be introduced to the three different states of matter including solid, liquid, and gas.

Literature: As we continue our studies in folktales this week we will read through two very interesting stories. One folktale is about a Tug-Of-War between 3 very different animals, and the other folktale teaches us why mosquitos buzz in a person's ear. Both of these folktale have creative storylines, which makes them enjoyable to read and intriguing to study.
