September 19 - September 23

 Dear Kindergarten Families,

Our scholars are Spartan proud and carrying it well. The virtue of the month is Responsibility.

RESPONSIBILITY: We accept obligation related to our own good and the good of others, and we act on those obligations in a manner suitable to their timely and satisfactory fulfillment. We are willingly accountable for what we do and say, and we seek to learn from our mistakes. OWN YOUR ACTIONS!

Practice: Please have your scholars practice tucking in their shirts and locating their snack and their lunch box. Please have your scholars practice writing their name, number, and date to help with labeling their assignments. Please have your scholars practice reciting their poems in front of you to help build confidence in standing in front of their peers and delivering their best. HOMEWORK PLEASE HAVE YOUR SCHOLARS COMPLETE THEIR HOMEWORK EVERYDAY!

Quarterly Poem: "One, Two, Buckle My Shoe" Traditional Nursery Rhyme

Weekly Poem: " Hey Diddle Diddle" Traditional Nursery Rhyme

The week ahead:

SPALDING: Scholars will continue learning additional phonograms: (r,t,v,w) while reviewing the phonograms learned in the weeks prior: (o,c,a,d,f,g,s,qu,b,e,h,i,u,j,k,l,m,n,p). Scholars will practice writing their phonograms and review top line, midpoint, and baseline using Spalding paper. This week also continues our second week of Spalding homework. The red folders will contain a homework example, instructions on how to form the phonograms, and a visual of the correct Spalding grip.

Math: Now that the scholars have mastered the number 0-5, these next few weeks we will have the opportunity to learn and explore numbers 6-10. We will engage in multiple activities and worksheets to help us focus on the numbers 6&7 this week in Math. We will not only focus on counting and identifying those numbers, but also recognizing that a similar groups of 3 objects and 4 objects can be the equivalent of 7. Skip counting is another skill that we will introduce to our scholars this week.

Science/History: In Science, scholars will continue to investigate the five senses by specifically learning about the sense of taste and the sense of smell. Scholars will wrap up the week with a Five Senses assessment on Friday. In history, scholars will continue to learn about Columbus and his findings in the "new land" and will end the unit with an assessment on Thursday.

Literature: We have the opportunity to continue learning about folktales, and even explore two similar stories this week. As we read "Henny Penny" by Paul Galdone, and Chicken Little, we will study the main events that took place and learn how the characters behave in each story.
