September 12th - September 16th

  Dear Kindergarten Families,

Our scholars are Spartan proud and carrying it well. The virtue of the month is Responsibility.

RESPONSIBILITY: We accept obligation related to our own good and the good of others, and we act on those obligations in a manner suitable to their timely and satisfactory fulfillment. We are willingly accountable for what we do and say, and we seek to learn from our mistakes. OWN YOUR ACTIONS!

Practice: Please have your scholars practice tucking in their shirts and locating their snack and their lunch box. Please have your scholars practice writing their name, number, and date to help with labeling their assignments. Please have your scholars practice reciting their poems in front of you to help build confidence in standing in front of their peers and delivering their best. HOMEWORK PLEASE HAVE YOUR SCHOLARS COMPLETE THEIR HOMEWORK EVERYDAY!

Poem: "One, Two, Buckle My Shoe" Traditional Nursery Rhyme

The week ahead:

SPALDING: Scholars will continue learning additional phonograms: (l,m,n,p) while reviewing the phonograms learned in the weeks prior: (o,c,a,d,f,g,s,qu,b,e,h,i,u,j,k). Scholars will practice writing their phonograms and review top line, midpoint, and baseline using Spalding paper. This week we start our first week of SPALDING HOMEWORK. The red folders will contain a homework example, instructions on how to form the phonograms, and a visual of the correct Spalding pencil grip. Homework needs to be turned in and checked daily.

Math: This week in math, we will complete our review of numbers 0-5. As we wrap up these concepts, we will be able to engage in many different hands-on activities to help all scholars truly understand and recognize each number. While we are continuing to learn about grouping similar objects, we will also discuss the importance of grouping those objects on a grid so as to be able to count the objects with ease.

Science/History: This week scholars will be introduced to Christopher Columbus, his plans to travel to the "new" lands, who assisted him financially and his life at sea! Students will continue learning more about the five senses by specifically reviewing the sense of sight and sound/hearing.

Literature: This week as we continue to read more fairytales, we will learn about story maps and how they are important to literature. Our virtue for this month is responsibility; therefore, we will discuss how to show responsibility at school, and in our everyday activities. Our wonderful fairy tale that we are studying this week is the story of the "Little Red Hen".
