  Dear Kindergarten Families,

Our scholars are settling into their routines and enjoying making new friendships. The virtue of the month is RESPONSIBILITY.

Responsibility: We accept obligations related to our own good and the good of others, and we act on those obligations in a manner suitable to their timely and satisfactory fulfilment. We are willingly accountable for what we do and say, and we seek to learn from our mistakes. OWN YOUR ACTIONS

Practice: Please have your scholars practice tucking in their shirts and locating their snack and their lunch box. Please have your scholars practice writing their name, number, and date to help with labeling their assignments. Please have your scholars practice reciting their poems in front of you to help build confidence in standing in front of their peers and delivering their best.

Poem: "One, Two, Buckle My Shoe" Traditional Nursery Rhyme

The week ahead:

SPALDING: Scholars will continue learning additional phonograms (b,3,h,i) while reviewing the phonograms learned in the week prior (o,c,a,d,f,g,s,qu). Scholars will practice writing their phonograms and review top line, mid point, and baseline using Spalding paper. Please have scholars use the correct pencil grip at home.

Math: The scholars will be continuing to work on number 0-5. They will learn how to write each number strategically and also continue to learn how to represent numbers in various ways. The scholar will be able to engage in multiple activities that will help build their numerical skills.

Science/History: This week students will continue to learn about features of a map including map keys, legends, and symbols. Scholars will also learn how to use the cardinal directions of a compass rose located on a map and their importance. Students will then be introduced to different bodies of water including rivers, lakes, gulfs, and oceans. Lastly scholars will be introduced to local geography and will be able to recognize San Antonio and Texas on a map.

Literature: In Literature we have been learning a lot about characters and settings. This week as we read the story of “The wolf and the seven kids” we will talk about fairy tails, make believe stories, and real stories. We will also focus on the virtue courage and how we can apply it to our daily lives.
